Final 2016 Fiji sugar cane season pay non-existent for some

There are ongoing concerns about the future of the Fiji sugar industry after some cane farmers were left out of pocket at the end of the cyclone battered 2016 season.

Earlier this month the Fiji government gave growers a top-up payment for last year, recognising the difficulties resulting from Cyclone Winston.

But the opposition National Federation Party says much of that was then clawed back, through loan repayments and other charges.
