Today, there were 54 new confirmed and probable cases of Covid-19 in the country, bringing the total number to 1160.

In its update today, the ministry said there was still a strong link to overseas travel (42 percent of cases), as well as links to confirmed cases within New Zealand (41 percent of cases), including those in known clusters, and community transmission accounted for two percent.

New Zealand's biggest cluster, at Auckland's Marist College, also saw an increase of cases, with five more confirmed in the last 24 hours.

The ministry said 77 people with links to the school had so far tested positive for Covid-19.

The number of cases linked to the World Hereford conference in Queenstown, an Auckland workplace, an event in Auckland, and a group travelling to the United States have also risen slightly.

Just over half of the new confirmed and probable cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand from the last 24 hours are connected to clusters.

There have been more than 42,000 tests conducted across the country so far, with 2908 tests carried out yesterday.
