Single vehicle crashes kill two people in Southland, North Canterbury

Two people died in crashes in the South Island last night.

One person died following a single vehicle crash on Glendhu Road, in Motunau in the Hurunui district.

The crash was reported to police just before 8.30pm.

A second person was airlifted by helicopter to Christchurch Hospital for treatment.

Enquiries into the crash are continuing, police say.

Meanwhile, the police in Southland are appealing for witnesses following a fatal crash on Wyndham Road, near Mataura, just after 11 last night.

The sole occupant of the crashed vehicle which rolled into a paddock, died at the scene.

The police are asking anyone who may have seen a dark-coloured Mazda ute in the area at the time to contact them.
