Watch: When big-shot artist Hundertwasser moved to Northland

12:43 pm on 30 November 2018

Austrian-born artist and architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser was a superstar in the 1970s when he bought property in the Bay of Islands. But in the small towns of Northland, he was simply known to locals as Friedrich - the guy in the gumboots, odd socks, and a funny hat.

In the new documentary My Friend Friedrich, directed and produced by Daniel Nathan and made for the fourth series of RNZ's Wireless Docs, those who knew Hundertwasser talk of his love for New Zealand, and his own special way of life.

My Friend Friedrich was made possible with funding from NZ On Air.
