They found 264 kilograms of pseudoephedrine and ephedrine, used to make methamphetamine, when the container arrived at the Ports of Auckland on Sunday morning.

Police say the shipment of drugs was disguised as legitimately imported commercial goods.

The seizure is part of an ongoing police operation focusing on what they describe as a group of senior Asian organized crime figures operating in New Zealand.

In total, the operation has tracked down more than half a tonne of pseudoephedrine.
