Samoa fears growth of dialysis needs in years ahead

13:40 pm on 19 July 2007

Samoa's Minister of Health, Gatoloaifa'ana Amataga Gidlow, says 400 people may require treatment at the dialysis unit if they do not take the medication and and follow the advice of doctors.

The minister told SBCTV the doctors at the one year old dialysis unit have come up with the estimate of 400 more cases related to problems with diabetes.

But she says this can be prevented if the affected people continue to exercise and to keep a balanced diet.

At least 40 kidney patients are being treated at the dialysis hospital.
