Redevelopments of Christchurch's hospitals is under way, with the first concrete poured on Wednesday.
The Canterbury District Health Board is redeveloping its Christchurch and Burwood hospital facilities at a cost of $650 million.
Chief executive David Meates said it's been all hands to the pump with 700 cubic metres of concrete poured for the foundations of a Burwood building that will house services supporting the rest of the build.
Mr Meates said the enabling works for Christchurch Hospital are due to start in September.
