CNMI government's cash shortage continues to worsen

12:06 pm on 21 October 2010

In the Northern Marianas, only critical service and federal funded employees will again receive their pay on time tomorrow as the government's cash shortage continues to worsen.

The Governor's press secretary, Angel Demapan, told the Saipan Tribune that all others are expected to get their pay roll on Tuesday.

1,400 non-essential government employees will only be paid for 28 to 32 hours because of the partial government shutdown which began on October 1.

Government operations went back to normal only on October 12.

The governor signed the bill on October 10, two days after the Legislature passed the bill, well past the September 30 deadline.
