Fiji lawyer Singh fails in bid to get practising certificate

18:43 pm on 25 May 2010

The Suva High court has refused an urgent application from Abhay Singh to re-instate his practicing certificate as a lawyer in Fiji.

According to Fijivillage, the Chief Registrar last week refused to issue Mr Singh with a practicing certificate based on his earlier conviction by the courts on a charge of trying to pervert the course of justice.

Mr Singh wanted to initiate legal proceedings against the Chief registrar, Ana Rokomokoti.

Two weeks ago, the Court of Appeal ordered his reinstatement to the Roll of Barristers and Solicitors, but left a decision for him to be allowed to practice pending.
