Rugby player charged with careless driving

09:09 am on 11 May 2010

Former All Black and Chiefs rugby player Sione Lauaki has been charged with careless driving after crashing his car through a fence on State Highway One, north of Huntly last month.

The police say blood tests showed he had been drinking, but was well below the legal alcohol limit.

Lauaki, 28, is due to be sentenced on a charge of assault after an incident in a Hamilton bar in March.

He pleaded guilty and was to be sentenced last week, but it was delayed to allow his lawyer to make an application for a discharge without conviction.
