Thousands of people welcomed the victorious Highlanders back to Dunedin this morning with songs, cheers, and a whole lot of flag waving.
The team won the Super Rugby trophy last night, beating the Hurricanes 21 to 14 in front of a sold-out Westpac Stadium.

Highlanders' coach: We took our chances and won
As the team were welcomed by a brass band and a Kapa Haka group, coach Jamie Joseph allowed himself a rare smile, and declared himself pleased with the team's performance.
"The team works really hard - but every team works really hard - but only one team gets to win the championship so, with that in mind, I'm really proud of the team."

The players looked tired following the game, the season, and last night's celebrations, however they took time to greet fans, sign autographs and bask in the praise from the adoring crowd.

A civic reception and parade is being held in Dunedin at noon tomorrow. Led by a brass band, the Highlanders will travel on the back of utes along Frederick Street and George Street to the Octagon.
