A blockade of two fuel depots in New Caledonia has been lifted after the protestors were assured, they could meet the heads of the fuel companies.
A group calling itself the Citizen's Association of New Caledonia set up the blockades at Numbo and Ducos in the Noumea area this morning as part of its campaign against the high cost of living.
It sought talks with the companies, which are being blamed for the spike in prices.
Earlier this month, the association's representatives quit negotiations with the government after failing to get it to lower fuel prices as they also campaigned against the high cost of food.
Last week, the group held off with protests, saying its members wanted to organise more effective and better-coordinated action.
The Association, which was formed last year and describes itself as apolitical, said it was campaigning alongside others, like farmers, truckers, and unions, to lower the cost of living.
The association said it was not acceptable that the general population had to pay up, but instead it was the multinationals that needed to act because they triggered this inflation.
