Every year Environment Southland honours those in the community working to better their environment.
Local farmers Graeme and Jan Appleby have been recognised for their mission to transform a peat bog into a usable block of land.
After tackling 4-metre high gorse, it's now been granted a protection covenant and is home to rare birds and plants.
Graeme tells us about the restoration.
