Niue premier calls April election

The premier of Niue, Toke Talagi, has announced that the 20-member Parliament will be dissolved on March the 7th.

The premier says the country will go to the polls on April the 12th.

Mr Talagi is expected to stand again in a bid to secure a third three-year term at the helm.

This year Niue, with a population of about 1200, celebrates 40 years of self government in free association with New Zealand.
