A New Zealander in prison in Bali for suspected drug smuggling is on suicide watch after New Zealand consular officials passed on information about his mental health history.
Antony de Malmanche was arrested last week after being found carrying nearly two kilograms of methamphetamine into the country - an offence punishable by death in Bali.
The information about his mental health history was given to the Balinese authorities in a letter from police in New Zealand.
A correspondent in Bali said, as a result of that, there would be someone in the prison cell with Mr de Malmanche at all times to make sure he did not harm himself.
