The battle with the Covid-19 pandemic in the Northern Marianas has hit an unwanted milestone with two more people confirmed with the coronavirus, bringing the number of cases there to 30.

Both people were asymptomatic and identified through testing at the Pacific Islands Club Saipan quarantine facility, which indicates they were recent passengers on a United Airlines flight from Guam.

The Chief Executive of the CNMI's healthcare Esther Muna said a rise in numbers was expected as more people get tested and off-island flights from Guam re-start.

As of yesterday, nearly 7,300 people had been tested in the commonwealth. Three other cases in recent days have been linked to renewed flights from Guam.

Of the 30 confirmed cases, 19 have recovered, nine are active and two had died.

Authorities said seven had been from incoming passengers.
