Wallis march to back public service strike

19:34 pm on 17 July 2014

About 350 people in Wallis & Futuna have joined a march in support of a public sector strike which is about to enter its third week.

The group carrying banners against the French state marched from the royal palace to the prefect's administration building.

The strike has been called to oppose changes to the status of public servants.

As a result of the strike, access to most offices has been blocked.

Efforts to settle the dispute have been unsuccessful.

A skeleton air service has been maintained, linking the territory to New Caledonia.
