Pacific govts urged to hear their youth and act

A Pacific women's activist says the presence of young people at the United Nations Climate Summit showed the need to involve youth at all levels of decision-making.

Sharon Bhagwan-Rolls, of Shifting the Power Coaltion, praised the young for taking their fight on the climate crisis to New York last week.

She said the youth want their governments to listen and to act now.

"And not say okay we've heard them and then just go on and do what you want to do. But to say, okay why aren't young people able to participate in village or local government committees?

"And change that, make it happen where young people can attend, when rural women, when coastal women, when women with disabilities can attend," she said.
