Manchester Street upgrade starts today

Work starts today on turning Christchurch's Manchester Street in the central city into a tree lined boulevard.

It's part of a $26 million project on roads around the edge of the CBD being funded by the government and the council.

Manchester Street is being widened to create bus priority lanes, trees will be planted and footpaths will be improved.

The work is expected to take 15 months and is happening next to an area that's been set aside for the large scale development of inner city apartments.
