Four people have been arrested following the death of a man at rugby clubrooms in Whakatāne at the weekend.
Jamaine Wharton was attending a 21st birthday party when he was assaulted and stabbed.
The 31-year-old was taken to Whakatane Hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning but died of his injuries.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Wilson said two men, aged 25 and 20, and a 16-year-old youth have been arrested.
They have been charged with assault with intent to injure and will all appear in the Whakatāne Youth Court today.
A 42-year-old woman was also arrested for inciting the assault and will also appear in court today.
Wilson said the investigation team was focused on piecing together the exact movements and actions of those involved in his death.
