Magnitude 7.1 quake in Kermadec Islands poses no tsunami threat - NEMA

There is no tsunami threat to New Zealand following a M7.1 earthquake in the Southern Kermadec Islands, NEMA says.

The quake hit the islands, about 1000km northeast of New Zealand, on Thursday afternoon.

The USGS said the quake struck about 22km deep.

The Department of Conservation said it did not have anyone stationed on the Kermadec Islands.
