Biscuit sales have helped keep Girl Guides funded for more than half of its 111-year history.

Every year, Girl Guides and volunteers sell nearly 900,000 packets of the vanilla-flavoured biscuit with its clover leaf logo.

However, in an announcement today, GirlGuiding New Zealand says it had decided to stop fundraising through biscuit sales.

Its chief executive Susan Coleman said the organisation wanted to allow members and volunteers to focus more on its core purpose and programmes.

The biscuits will continue to be manufactured this year and are expected to remain available for sale until early 2019.

The managing director at The Griffin's Food Company Brett Henshaw said it had had been an honour and a privilege to have manufactured Guide Biscuits for more than 60 years.
