Samoa police leadership undergoes change

07:53 am on 23 March 2010

Samoa's Police Commissioner, Lilomaiava Fou Taioalo, has reshuffled his new line-up of assistant commissioners.

The head of the correctional section, Assistant Commissioner Pagamalie Penani Lemuelu, has been transferred to the police headquarters heading security and operations.

The assistant commissioner, Sala Seaga Uili Lafaele, will take his place as the new head of corrections based at the main Tafaigata prison.

The changes follow the release of double murderer, Tagaloasa Filipaina Faisauvale, who was last year put behind bars again to continue serving his life sentence for breaches of his parole after he was released from jail in 1995.

The assistant police commissioner and spokesperson, Le'aupepe Fatu Pula, says an internal inquiry is underway as to why the killer was released by Pagamalie Penani Lemuelu.
