Ferry passengers will be diverted through the departures hall on arrival in Wellington.

KiwiRail said there will be little impact for passengers.

KiwiRail chief operating officer Todd Moyle said the arrivals terminal met just 23 percent of the building code.

He said KiwiRail was working on some interim solutions, but there there won't be any disruption for passengers on sailings leading up to the school holidays.
