The office has handled complaints about discrimination and harassment from the territory in the past, but last week's visit by director Glory Gervacio Saure is the first time in American Samoa itself.

Ms Saure said rights in the workplace is not just important for employees.

"Also for managers and supervisors to make them more aware or knowledgeable in what their roles and responsibilities [are]. They have to ensure that their employees and their people are working in a discrimination-free and harassment-free environment."

The Honolulu Office is responsible for Hawaii and Guam, the Northern Marianas and American Samoa.
