A man has been charged with murder over the death of another man in the South Auckland suburb of Ōtāhuhu overnight.

Detective Inspector Warrick Adkin said police were called to an address at Jane Cowie Avenue at about 8.02pm Thursday night.
"A man was located at the address with critical injuries and despite police providing first aid, he has died at the scene."
Another man, who is 34, was charged with murder and will appear in the Manukau District Court today.
Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the death.
"Ōtāhuhu residents can expect to see a continued police presence in the area today, including cordons around the Jane Cowie property, where a scene examination will continue today."
Anyone with relevant information is asked to call the police.
