Fiji's Sugar Cane Growers Council says it is committed to retaining projected losses of almost 40 million US dollars to farmers due to the removal of price subsidies.
The Council's chief executive officer, Surendra Sharma, told the Fiji Times it will soon implement programs like planting alternative crops and other additional on-farm activities that could generate other sources of income for farmers and help boost the economy.
Crops expected to be planted over the planting season include rice, maize, sorghum, pulses and market vegetables.
