Volunteers involved in the flood recovery around Brisbane are being encouraged to focus their attention this weekend on the city's parks.

The ABC reports thousands of people are expected to help with the clean-up.

Volunteering Queensland said on Friday that more than 60,000 people have now registered to help with the flood recovery.

Chief executive officer Jelenko Dragisic says they will be needed for many months to come.

Twenty people died in the floods in the south-east of the state and grave fears are held for another nine who are missing, mainly from the Lockyer valley.

The Bureau of Meteorology says there is no threat of rain in the region.

However, the town of St George is bracing for its second flood peak in a fortnight.
