Opposition to attempts to frisk Palau's President

05:43 am on 26 May 2008

The Palau House of Delegates has passed a resolution expressing its disapproval of the treatment of the President and First Lady by Continental Micronesia and the Transportation Security Administration

The President and the First Lady had been on an official two day state visit to the Philippines and were not allowed to board a Continental Airlines flight to return to Palau unless they agreed to be frisked.

The pair returned to Palau via a private jet provided by the Philippine government.

The President has pledged Palau's support for the coalition of the willing in the war against terrorism.

The House resolution says it is ironic that the President of Palau who leads Palau in the war on terror is also treated and screened at the airport as a possible terrorist himself.
