Solomon Islands has received a 16.2 million US dollar grant package to help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the national network of rural roads.
The package comprises 350-thousand US dollars from the ADB's Asian Development Fund, 6.1 million from Australia, and 9.75 million from the New Zealand government.
The money will finance the rehabilitation of about 100 kilometers of provincial and secondary roads.
The Government of Solomon Islands will contribute 650-thousand towards the project's total estimated cost of 16.85 million dollars.
It will also fund improved road maintenance by developing and implementing management systems, helping to implement a national transport fund, and involving private contractors and communities in the task.
