A Whanganui school has apologised for sharing private student information in a mass email to parents yesterday.
Whanganui Intermediate said the mistake was recognised quickly and a followup email was sent asking people to delete the information.
Names, addresses, and medical information were disclosed.
It said the police and privacy commissioner were notified.
In a post on Facebook, the school said the email was sent in error to the Year 8 parent community.
The school said it was devastated by the serious breach of privacy and it was very sorry.
Any parent or caregiver who had concerns should contact the school for support.
"Parents have been reminded that reading, printing, forwarding or sharing any of this information not pertaining to their own child is also illegal as a breach of the Privacy Act," the school said.
