Millbrook Resort is set to open its new course to the public on Monday which takes the existing Coronet nine hole to 18 holes.

Alongside its Remarkables 18 course, Millbrook is one of only two golf courses in New Zealand to offer two distinctly different 18-hole courses.

The course was designed by golf pro Greg Turner and Scott Macpherson and is described as 'a golfer's dream'.

Designer Greg Turner said the course encompasses all there is to offer in the Wakatipu Basin and is a more modern version of previous courses.

" anticipate the new Coronet 18 par-five 11th hole looking towards Coronet Peak will become one of the most photographed holes in New Zealand."

Turner said golfers and spectators alike will be able to enjoy a range of spectacular vistas with 360-degree views of Coronet Peak and The Remarkables mountain ranges.

Millbrook members were given the chance to play on the course before it opens its doors to the public.

Director of property and development Ben O'Malley said so far the reaction had been fantastic.

"[The members] are loving playing the new holes and we have strong bookings already in place for both 18's," he said.

"Keen golfers are always enthusiastic for different experiences. They're enjoying the higher elevations, rock faces, the lake, wetlands and stream area of the new course, which has a distinctly agrarian feel thanks to mobs of sheep wandering alongside the course in interlinking paddocks."

About 34,000 native species have been planted over the past two years on the course, in wetlands alongside Mill Stream.

Golf professionals and amateurs playing in the New Zealand Open will experience the course when it makes its event debut from 31 March to 3 April.
