A police officer needed medical attention after attempting to contain three escaped sheep in Westport on Saturday evening.
Acting Sergeant Sarah Cook told the Westport News police intervened because the sheep were on Domett Street (which is in the centre of town).
While tackling a sheep, one officer was injured and needed two stitches.
The sheep were successfully contained and both officer and sheep were now well, she said.
