In a statement today, the ministry said today's seven-day rolling average of cases was 8355, up from the seven-day rolling average of cases last Monday at 7986.

Of today's 10 deaths, one person was from Auckland; one from Counties Manukau; two from Waikato; one from Hawke's Bay; one from MidCentral; one from Whanganui; one from the Wairarapa; one from Canterbury; and one from Southern.

One person was in their 40s; one was in their 60s; two were in their 70s; five were in their 80s and one person was over 90.

Regarding the two deaths under nine years old reported a few days ago, the ministry said for one of them Covid-19 was not a contributing factor, and that death had now been removed from its tally.

At the ministry's update yesterday, there were 5562 new community cases, the lowest total in two months, with nine further deaths.

There were 490 people in hospital with the coronavirus, including 20 in ICU.

The nine deaths included people who had died over the past nine days and they took the total number of publicly reported deaths of people with Covid-19 in New Zealand to 674.
