Police have cordoned off an area in Seacliff, north of Dunedin, as they investigate an incident that left a man seriously injured.
The man has been taken to Dunedin Hospital and was in a serious condition.
The police have confirmed few details but other media have reported the incident involved a firearm.
A St John Ambulance spokesperson said staff were alerted shortly before 8.18am to the incident on Russell Road.
The spokesperson said the Fire Service and the Otago rescue helicopter had also responded to the incident.
