Prosecutors of two Samoan men charged with conspiring to kill the Prime Minister have opposed their application to leave for Australia.

Malele Atofu Paulo and Lema'i Faioso Sione, who are free on bail, want to go to Australia but return before their trial in November.

The defence lawyer had told the court that Lema'i wanted a medical check in Australia because of a deteriorating health condition.

Malele had been living in Samoa for more than a year and wanted to visit his wife and children.

But the prosecution's lawyer asked the court not to grant the application because of concern that they might not return.

The court will deliver its decision next Wednesday.
