Waimamaku is a tiny town just south of the Hokianga Harbour with a Four Square store, a cafe, a health centre, a hall, a takeaway shop, a garage and a play centre. "What more do you want?" as one local says.
Every February you'll see gun-toting horseriders dashing down the main street in the Wild West Festival, plus cheese-rolling in honour of the old cheese factory which now houses the cafe.
Ask the locals why they love the place and they all talk about the community, helping each other, the bush and the beach.
