20:17 pm on 25 January 2009

Police have killed two suspected Pakistani militants after a car chase and gun battle on the outskirts of New Delhi.

Police say they shot dead the two men in Noida, a city a few kilometres from New Delhi.

They say they recovered AK-47 rifles and grenades and some documents, including a Pakistani passport.

India celebrates its Republic Day on Monday and the country is on high alert after the Mumbai attacks in November, when Pakistani militants killed 179 people in coordinated attacks in India's financial capital.
