Swimmer still missing

21:57 pm on 15 January 2012

No trace has so far been found of a swimmer who was swept out to sea at Titahi Bay north of Wellington on Saturday.

Albert Alapati, 24, from Porirua, was caught in a rip at Titahi Bay with five others, who were later rescued.

A helicopter, the Coastguard, police and volunteers spent Sunday searching the coast for him.

Police say the search will resume on Monday morning.

Inspector Ian Harris says the longer the man is missing, the more concern they have for his safety.
