Media company Stuff has confirmed it will axe 19 jobs at its community papers in Auckland and Northland.

Earlier this month, Stuff proposed making 16 reporters and three news directors redundant and it has been confirmed today that those changes will go ahead.

Stuff will add four senior journalist roles to its Auckland newsroom to cover areas like Henderson, Manukau and Albany.

There will also be a senior journalist in Whangarei.

Stuff said it would not be closing any of the 13 papers impacted by the changes.

Editorial director Mark Stevens said the company would be changing the content mix, leveraging off the Neighbourly social media site.

In an email to staff, he said these changes would ensure the publications "remain sustainable print products that meet the needs of our audience".
