Person taken to hospital in serious condition after fire in Invercargill

Six people were treated for smoke inhalation and one was taken to hospital in a serious condition after a fire in Invercargill.

Emergency services were called to a blaze in a three-storey commercial building on Dee Street just before 1am on Wednesday.

Northbound lanes of State Highway 6 through Invercargill were closed.

Waka Kotahi are advising northbound drivers to use an alternative route and take extra care in the area.

Fire in two-storey West Auckland building

Investigators are trying to find the cause of a blaze in a residential building in West Auckland.

Emergency services were called to the two-storey building in Massey East just before 1am.

Five appliances from West Harbour, Te Atatū, Auckland City, Henderson and Takapuna fought the blaze which was brought under control in under an hour.

No one was found in the building and no injuries were reported.
