The University of the South Pacific and KPMG have been ordered by the Court of Appeal in Samoa to pay damages and costs of 2 and half thousand US dollars to the former chief accountant of the USP Alafua campus.
Fale'ulu Mauli had sued the two defendants for defamation when a report accused him of inadequate performance in his roles as financial manager and controller for the campus.
His claim for damages of more than 2 million US dollars was dismissed by the Supreme Court last year.
However the Court of Appeal, in their assessment of the general damages were satisfied there was defamation, at the lower end of the scale, and ordered damages of just less than 2 thousand US dollars.
