Northland police find body believed to be Bridget Simmonds

Police investigating the disappearance of Northland woman Bridget Simmonds have unearthed what's believed to be her remains at a rural property near Whangarei - where she used to live.

The last confirmed sighting of the mother of two was on February 23 last year when her own mother dropped her off at the Countdown supermarket in Kamo. She has not been in touch since.

In the past few days police have been digging at a the Parakao property, and a dive squad and police specialist search team have been combing the area.

A person is now helping police with the investigation. Lisa Owen spoke to Detective Senior Sargent John Clayton a short time ago and asked him what was the lasted in the investigation.

A 57-year-old man has been charged with assault and remanded in custody.
