A new phase of rockfall protection work on State Highway 2 in Remutaka Hill, north of Wellington, is due to get under way.

The project, which began on 10 June, is aimed at reducing the risk of a landslide and a major disruption to the route.

Crews have carried out rock scaling work in preparationg for bolts and rockfall mesh to be installed at a site near the summit on the Featherston side of the hill.

On Monday, weather permitting, materials were being lifted by helicopter to the project site.

Road users can expect three separate five-minute traffic stops, 20 minutes apart, until 1pm on Monday.
