Jetstar Airways is suspending direct flights between Wellington and Melbourne citing a lack of passenger demand.
The route launched nearly two years ago. Its four direct flights each week will end at the start of March.
A Jetstar spokesperson said, despite the airline's efforts to promote the flights, it had not created the passenger demand it hoped for.
The airline would offer those who had already booked flights for after March several options to fly out of Auckland or Christchurch, or they could receive a full refund.
Jetstar would continue to offer three direct flights each week between Wellington and the Gold Coast.
