Shayne Heappey died in hospital on Saturday after being dropped off with serious injuries.

Police and specialist forensic staff are currently searching the Stanbury Avenue property, in the suburb of Somerfield.

The armed officer is standing in front of a tent that blocks anyone from getting into the property, which has also been cordoned off.

Locals in the area wouldn't be interviewed, but told RNZ it's highly unusual for the police to be on their street.

Police won't say what they're looking for, but added that a property in Oakhurst Place, Russley, is also being searched.
