Reports from New Caledonia say nine more people have been arrested over the violence in Mare earlier this month when four people were shot dead and more than 20 others were wounded.
A first batch of 17 people had been arrested late last week.
Public radio says eight of the detainees have been transferred to the main jail while nine others have been released on strict conditions.
Investigations have revealed that about 40 people possessed and used weapons during the clashes near the airport.
The fight was between a group blockading the airport and another trying to dislodge it.
