The new Horowhenua mayor says he will work at the district council offices in Levin, despite previously refusing to enter the building because he was concerned about its structural integrity.
Michael Feyen and 10 councillors were officially sworn-in last night.
He had been at odds with the former mayor and the council's chief executive about the building in Levin, over fears it was an earthquake risk.
Mr Feyen said he had now softened his stance.
"I'm in the building. I decided that I definitely have my thoughts about the building and will be following through.
"But just to show good faith ... it is a bit like if you are the captain of a ship, well, you're going to be with your ship members.
"That's why I have come into the building," Mr Feyen said.
