Godfrey misses out on cycle world champs

14:09 pm on 16 March 2010

The 2008 world omnium cycle champion Hayden Godfrey has missed out on a place in the New Zealand track team which flies to Denmark tomorrow, shattering his hopes of regaining the world title.

Godfrey was knocked off his bike and flew through a car windscreen in late January while training in Christchurch, injuring his arm and forcing him to miss the national track championships last month.

The New Zealand head coach Tim Carswell says while Godfrey has done well to recover to where he is now, he's not at the level he needs to be to compete at the world champs.
