Meatworkers protest Easter lockout notice

06:46 am on 2 April 2012

Meat workers are striking at several AFFCO meat plants.

They are supporting staff who will be locked out on Good Friday and Easter Monday, depriving them of statutory holiday pay.

The company says the new lockout covers 500 workers who went on strike in solidarity with the 1000 workers already shut out.

The Meatworkers Union says AFFCO issued the new lock-out notice at the same time as agreeing to further mediation talks.

Meatworkers are picketing plants on Monday morning at Moerewa, Horotiu, Rangiuru and later at Feilding and Whanganui.
